Wildcat is a formation that is designed to get the ball to your faster players in hopes that they can make somebody miss and in the confusion break off for a large gain of yards. The quarterback typically stands out to one of the sides, away from the action of the play.
What are the origins of Under Center Offenses?
The Wildcat as a concept was used as far back as the early 1900's when the forward pass was illegal. However, the current version of the Wildcat was popularized by Bill Snyder at Kansas State in the late 1990's.
Are there any famous teams who used this defense?
This formation is not nearly as popular as some of the other ones listed here, as many different NFL teams do not use this formation at all.
